We're all familiar with pop-up advertising. When over-used
they are an inconvenience to visitors, but when used properly and with
restraint they absolutely improve click-throughs, upsells, and

The premise of a delayed pop-up is that it does not appear until the visitor
has read a portion of your sales letter. The challenge with this is in
making the pop-up window appear at just the right time. Since different
people read at different rates, it is almost impossible to make a delayed
pop-up appear at just the right moment -- when the visitor has completed
reading your sales letter and is considering making the purchase.
Being able to control the pop-up window -- to make it appear
at just the precise time this decision is being made is critical. You can
experiment all you want, but you can not predict the speed at which people
will read your sales page. And therein lies both the opportunity and the
challenge. If the pop-up appears to soon, before the visitor has really had
a chance to consider making a purchase, the pop-up actually blocks their
ability to finish reading, and they close it or abandon the site.
