While Windows 98 and 95 come with the ability to hide folders and make them read-only, these Windows facilities are designed only to prevent accidental harm to your files. Folder Guard protects your data by intercepting requests from other programs to work with your files. Your data is not encrypted or modified in any way. We downloaded Folder Guard Jr. from Winability's web site, so we could try it before purchasing its full-featured "big brother." The installation was a breeze and it worked out of the box exactly as described. When we moved up to the full-featured Folder Guard we were quite pleased by the Explorer-like interface and the ability to right click to set security immediately. For shared PC environments, this tool fits the bill nicely, allowing several users to share a PC, but gives each one their own individual rights and priveleges.
