The need for file-level security of corporate assets has never been higher. While we realize corporations are utilizing a number of hardware-based approaches to remote laptop security (SecureID, parallel port dongles, etc.), how do you handle shared PC environments in sales offices? Folder Guard responds to this problems by providing:
Folder Guard is the perfect solution for computers running the Windows 98/95 operating system. Folder Guard makes files and folders invisible or read-only, controls access to system files, restricts access to the Control Panel, and prevents unauthorized use of your stand-alone or networked computer. It can even work in cooperation with the Windows System Policy Editor. While Windows 98 and 95 come with the ability to hide folders and make them read-only, these Windows facilities are designed only to prevent accidental harm to your files. Folder Guard provides genuine protection against people who are purposefully trying to access your files illicitly. Folder Guard protects your data by intercepting requests from other programs to work with your files. Your data is not encrypted or modified in any way. Whether you're worried about coworkers going on the network and gaining unauthorized access to your private files, or your kids messing up your work files, Folder Guard is a software-only solution to your security needs. We downloaded Folder Guard Jr. from Winability's web site, so we could try it before purchasing its full-featured "big brother." The installation was a breeze and it worked out of the box exactly as described. When we moved up to the full-featured Folder Guard we were quite pleased by the Explorer-like interface and the ability to right click to set security immediately. For shared PC environments, this tool fits the bill nicely, allowing several users to share a PC, but gives each one their own individual rights and priveleges.
