Maintaining a web-based calendar can be tricky. The end results either look poorly designed (like an Excel spreadsheet laid out like a calendar), are cumbersome to maintain, or require a ton of fancy JavaScripts. Luckily the kind folks at Coffee Cup Software have created Flash Web Calendar, and like all of their products, this one is inexpensive, is a breeze to use, and requires absolutely no programming skills.
The tool's interface is highly intuitive and while it comes with a Tips box, you'll probably never even need it. You can change the size and colors and borders of the calendar by simply clicking on various drop-down boxes.
Adding events to your calendar requires you to create an Events list. When people click on a date on your calendar, a dialogue box slides into view to display the events for the day. You can set recurring events or events that span a period of time. Perhaps the best thing about Flash Web Calendar is that it has a built-in FTP utility. After you save your calendar, it saves everything in an XML file for future editing. Then you merely login to your web server through the FTP utility and transfer the four files required to display your Flash Web Calendar on your site. This is the type of tool every organization should use for maintaining their web-based calendars. For more information or to download a demo, you can click the banner at the top of the page. |
