For years I was a
dedicated Ipswitch Imail Server user. For the money, and at the time I purchased
the software back in 1997, there were no other reasonable alternatives. For
years I was a captive customer, even through excessive upgrade costs and tons of
bugs.
Finally, after
literally having my email system hacked to pieces and my server grind to a
standstill, I visited the Ipswitch site in search of a solution. They had a lot
of new security and functionality patches. That was not good. They also were
charging to upgrade to a newer, more secure version. It was very, very
expensive. That was not good either.
Then I visited
their online support forum where oddly enough I found many dissatisfied
customers and absolutely NO ONE from Ipswitch responding to the crowd's support
requests. So the crowd took matters into their own hands and found a better
solution -- and that's where I learned about Smarter
Mail.
One of the first
things you notice when you visit the Smarter
Mail site is that they are easy to do business with, they are looking
for long-term customers, and they design applications for everyday people. At
the time this product is being reviewed (6/13/06), you can purchase a license
for 250 domains and 1000 email addresses for $399.00. That is a drop in the
bucket compared to other packages.
The interface is
very easy to read and is very intuitive. Drop-down menus allow you to navigate
through the application quickly and easily using your web browser. Set-up is a
breeze, and online help is always a click away. The Help file is very detailed
and well-written, clearly delineating the steps required for your preferred
installation.
Establishing email
for new domains and setting up aliases takes less than a minute. Using my web
browser from my home office, I remotely set-up over 75 domains set-up in less
than an hour.
Smarter
Mail comes with many other features that will make this application
particularly of interest to larger enterprises (did I say an unlimited domain
and users enterprise license was only $899.00?).
You get
calendaring, Outlook support, LDAP, News feeds and much, much more. This one is
a keeper and saved my online business from crashing. Thank you Smarter
Mail. I love you. Well, maybe not love, but I sure do like you a lot!
