If you've ever been hit by any major viruses, especially ones like Code Red or NIMDA
which alter your HTML code, then you know what a royal pain it can be when you have to
edit hundreds or even thousands of pages to remove code embedded by a virus like NIMDA. I
had over 8000 files infected by NIMDA, and while automated cleaning utilities certainly
got the bulk of them, even Norton could not clean them all. In fact, while Norton removed
some bad code, it left behind entire HTML strings which blew up many pages on my web sites
long after NIMDA, itself, had been removed.
Now most HTML editors like FrontPage and others enable you to search and replace
strings, but I've not seen any that will also give you an option to remove strings
entirely or make back-ups of the files edited.
MultiUpdate
removes, replaces and inserts strings very, very well. In fact, I simply entered the
string I wanted removed, pointed it to the directory containing 100 infected files, and
told it to GO!

Within seconds MultiUpdate
removed the string from each of the files, and made a back-up of the original files in a
directory of my own choosing. Everything was intact in the back-up directory just in case
something went awry. Every file where the string was removed functioned perfectly after
removal. The tool works very accurately and very fast.

change the URLs of banner graphics or page links, this tool will also be very helpful to
you when having to update a large volume of web pages.
