We all know the rule of a thumb: if a web page does not fully load in your browser
within 15 seconds, then you are likely to stop the page load and go elsewhere. Humans are
an inpatient bunch of creatures who want immediate satisfaction with their data as well as
everything else in this world. Luckily, Serpik Soft's Absolute HTML
Compressor can help.
Now I have evaluated and reviewed GIF and JPG compression utilities here before, and
for the most part, I have been pleased by the end results. I was a little hesitant,
though, about mucking around with HTML code. Afterall, if FrontPage and other
object-oriented web page design applications can muck up the code, I thought surely a
compression algorithm would trash the pages.
Not so. This freeware utility is actually quite careful about
how it approaches the subject. In addition to giving you options on what it will and will
not do to your page code, it also is very careful to make a full backup of every page and
directory you process with it.

Absolute HTML Compressor
It is a very fast tool, and in my tests, I witnessed compression ranging
from 62% to 93%. Every time I ran the utility, it carefully copied the original file(s) to
a backup directory just in case I was not pleased by the results.
I also liked the fact that I could batch compress files. I tried 73 files
and it handled them like a champ in a total time of only 10
seconds with an average compression of about 77% -- an almost 25% increase in speed --
which might make the difference between someone staying on my site or leaving.
