More and more authors are clamoring to publish for the Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook tablets. You would think this would be a relatively easy process. Just upload an Adobe PDF version of your ebook and bingo you're done. It's not that easy.

Both major online ebook sellers and publishers require your ebook to be in a standard format that will be easily read and displayed on their respective tablets.

Calibre is more full-featured and better supported than Mobipocket Creator. It enables you to manage and convert your ebooks, synch ebooks to and from your ebook reader/tablet, view your ebook files, and even download news from the web and create ebook files.

While no conversion is ever going to go perfectly smooth in one shot, I believe Calibre generates a cleaner file. I like the fact that it has a built-in file viewer so you can identify layout issues before publishing the final file.
